DUNE Wired: "I Found David Lynch’s Lost Dune II Script"

Whoa, wild stuff! I wish he’d shared the entire script. Some tantalizing stuff in there. The Baron’s Doctor being Scytale (a favorite of mine) is so cool and will definitely alter my future viewings of the film. And that description of Scytale and the Tleilaxu singing and laughing is so trippy and crazy. Very much Lynch in Ronnie Rocket mode.

Wow, crazy stuff. I’d also be curious to see how David would have depicted (or planned to depict) Paul’s son’s transformation in Children of Dune.

Half related, but I wonder how far into development David got with Red Dragon (Manhunter) before he did Blue Velvet instead.

Yeah, he worked on it for a bit before moving on to Blue Velvet as he considered it too dark, then Dino de Laurentiis gave it to Michael Mann.

I didn't know David was going to do Red Dragon at all.
He discussed it as his next film for De Laurentiis following Dune as early as December 1981, so just a couple of months after the book was published. He said he was attracted to it because he liked the idea of an intuitive/empathetic FBI agent, but as MasterMasterMnd says, he eventually dropped out as he found it “real violent and completely degenerate.” I don’t think he ever got to work on a script at all as he was too busy on Dune.
