David Warner has died. He played Thomas Eckhardt in Twin Peaks and had a prolific acting career spanning television, cinema, radio, and animation.

He would have turned 81 this coming Friday.

Aw man. That’s a tough one for me. A great fun actor, never afraid to chew the scenery in the best way possible. He did so much with so little on TP, and in many other great character roles.

Ahhh….the first film that turned me on to David Warner was a 1966 film called Morgan. He played a working class artist who descends into a fantasy world and performs crazy stunts in an effort to win back his wife, played by Vanessa Redgrave. I still can see in my mind him riding a motorcycle wearing a gorilla suit in flames…wild movie. It was nominated at Cannes that year. Redgrave won best actress. And of course who can forget his turn as Picard’s Cardassian torturer in two episodes of TNG. So many great roles.

That was him?! I didn't recognize him. I guess I could be forgiven, though, considering Cardassian makeup... Memorable episodes, but not Patrick Stewart's finest moment, in my opinion.

I keep counting Star Trek appearances of Twin Peaks alumni (there are many, I should probably make a list), but I completely missed this one.

Rest in peace.

Certain shows seem to be more unlucky than others: Twin Peaks lost a lot of castmembers (to be expected in a way: someone who was my age - 47 - in 1990 would be 79 now, which scares the Hell out of me!!!
Babylon 5 is another one that has suffered heavy losses. Meanwhile, William Shatner and George Takei are still duking it out 53 years after Star Trek season three ended! ;)

What’s kind of fascinating is actually how FEW of the major cast members passed away between the long gap between the original run and The Return. Silva, Nance and Don Davis are really the only major ones we lost in that period (I suppose you could also include Hank Worden, John Boylan and Dan O’Herlihy, but those were inevitable given their advanced ages). Then, basically as soon as The Return started shooting, we began to lose so many key cast members. We were so fortunate that the show was shot at that exact moment in time to get final curtain calls for Coulson, Warren Frost, Ferrer, Lipton, Stanton, etc. etc.

Indeed! Can you imagine if the pre-production delays had dragged on another year? The series would have become lost in rewrite hell!

It's a shame that David Bowie wasn't able to appear... If only the production started earlier.

When you think of it - especially if you take into consideration the large gap between Fire Walk with Me and The Return - the airing of the last episodes of The Return and the start of the Covid-19 pandemic were just a little bit more than two years apart. We're lucky we got any new Twin Peaks at all.

Annette McCarthy (Evelyn Marsh) has sadly passed away. A real shame.
That's a shame... Even though that storyline is somewhat unpopular and controversial, I never had any issues with the character she played, and certainly not with her as an actress. She was beautiful and mysterious, even a bit menacing, just as if she came out of a classic film noir.

Annette McCarthy left us. It was so great working with her. She brought life to a plotline that was unappealing. Condolences to her family.

Oh definitely no issues with her acting performance. A fine portrayal of a femme fatale. The plot always just felt out of place. From what I read she handled folks reactions to the plot line with a good sense of humour.

Rest in peace. Far too young.

I remember when someone edited the James/Evelyn storyline into a standalone film, which, sadly, has since been deleted for copyright violation. I watched it due to the sheer strangeness and audacity of the endeavor, and because of the bizarre parallels between this storyline and the second half of Lost Highway. I was surprised to find that it actually improved the material. Part of the problem with James/Evelyn storyline was that it had its own heavy film noir sensibility, which didn't match that of Twin Peaks, and furthermore, the storyline had nothing to do with anything going on in the town whatsoever, so every time that we switched over there, it was quite jarring, and upset the TP immersion.

On a related note, as I've said before, Badalamenti's James and Evelyn theme is superb.
