Star Trek: All Things Trek

Has anyone seen the second season of Prodigy? We enjoyed it even more than the first season and maybe even more than the final season of Lower Decks.

I would be fine with this being the end; it would make sense. But we're hoping for more.

With the Skydance takeover of Paramount Global, everything is up in the air. Secret Hideout's current contract is coming to an end this summer, Discovery ended two seasons early, Picard saw out its three-season minimum contract (Netflix had first option on that series and passed on it after they effectively paid for the entire production of season one of Discovery, only for it not to do as well as expected) The Lower Decks is done, Starfleet Academy has a season made, Strange New Worlds is ticking along, and the standlaone Section 31 TV movie is due within weeks... There's talk of another cinema movie, but that's been going on for almost a decade. Merchandise sales for post-2009 Star Trek are dire, with most of the money still coming in from 1966-2005 Star Trek.

The TV and movie industry is in such a state of flux that nothing is fixed for the moment. For comparison, it's been four years since Disney took over 20th Century Fox, yet there are few movies from the 20th Century Fox/20th Century Studios getting physical media release, with Disney opting out of physical media and passing distribution to Sony, and many older catalogue releases are now out of print and selling for insane money on the secondhand market. I'm caving in for one or two films such as LA Confidential and buying the (not great) old Blu-ray secondhand, because the chances of a 4k release anytime soon are small.

There will always be some sort of Star Trek around, but I'm anticipating delays and changes. My big hope has been for a 4K release of the original Star Trek television series next year for the 60th anniversary, but there's been no news. And the most obvious thing to do - new animation for The Animated Series, adding some new guest voices to make James Doohan's and Majel Barrett's multiple voices less obvious - is still only being hypothesised.

I really want to watch Lower Decks’ final season, but the constant bleeping of expletives freaks one of my dogs out, and I haven’t felt like unearthing my headphones.

I did enjoy the first few eps of Prodigy, I just got behind in it due to all the other Trek being put out the last couple years.

Overall I think I’ve enjoyed most of New Trek, but there have been some Spock’s Brains in there too unfortunately.
