Hey, guys!

My first post here - so far I'm having lots of fun with the great content posted by the community.

Just something that I wanted to throw for discussion here: what if Lynch and Frost considered a new Twin Peaks show that wouldn't deal with Laura Palmer story, but something that could show, like, 30 to 40 years back in time?

Not only we could go deeper into the mysteries of TP - maybe some topics addressed in Frost's books - but as well as have the chance to see some occurrences from the past - like Bob appearing to a Leland Palmer as a kid, Major Briggs working with Windom Earle among many others.

What do you say? And do you know if a TP Prequel was ever considered/commented by Frost and/or Lynch?

Cheers!

Closest they come to "Peaks prequel" at least. I don't think Lynch would be inclined to do a straightforward Peaks prequel even if he was going to, but him doing something as subversive as FWWM or Part 8 would be fun.

FWWM is quite a linear film . It’s as linear as modern horror movies. It has a straightforward plot to follow

I could imagine Mark Frost doing something related to his books. The List of Seven, The Six Sovereigns and The Secret History of Twin Peaks could all mesh nicely into some sort of esoteric drama series.

This is essentially what Mark Frost's book The Secret History of Twin Peaks is. Have you checked it out?

One could also say The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer and Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes are also both prequels.

We're actually pretty rich in Twin Peaks prequels!

Regardless, tonally and stylistically the film is famously quite subversive.
Yes, it plays with the viewer a bit and there are a few flashbacks involving Leland and Teresa Banks, among other things. It feels perhaps more twisty than it is because of how David Lynch and Mary Sweeney put it together.

I loved those books. I think that anyone reading Laura's Diary would know what to expect from FWWM. As I've said before, FWWM is my favourite iteration of Twin Peaks and it took me into the dark, seductive, horrifying world of the Secret Diary, which is partly why I loved it so much!

My Life, My Tapes is a riotous mix of humour and real darkness. Given the different realities, I can completely get with the idea that Cooper did the Chester Desmond job in a different realm of reality. For that matter, Coop was stuck in the Lodge for 25 years. What did he do while he was there? For starters, he got a new haircut at some point!! Was he able to enter other realities and do jobs there, even in he wasn't able to go back to Twin Peaks?

There's a ton of material that could work as a series or some movies.

I love My Life My Tapes. It really succeeds in absolutely feeling like part of Twin Peaks, and not some cash grab tie-in book. It's haunting and hilarious and nails the character perfectly.

In terms of what Coop was doing, I kind of see it as the feeling of waking up from a long dream: what were you doing during the 8 hours while you slept? 8 hours is a long time, but when you wake up you just have a kaleidoscope of images you can barely remember and piece together. I feel like the entire time there must have felt like a long, confusing dream.

Yes, I've checked them! ;) What I meant is something on screen... But yeah, it could be either a version of the content presented on the books or inspired by those or - and that would be my hope - something entirely new, original and surprising.

Truth is: I can't get enough of Twin Peaks. Honestly, who can? ;)

Twin Peaks Series 3 Episode 8 1945 Trinity nuclear test with ghouls infecting Sarah and Leland is the origin story.

It's the origin of some of it. Clearly there's a lot going back millennia. Certainly there's stuff going back centuries.

Open world video game is also fine
Possibly a vulgar thought in these hallowed halls, but I have wondered what a Twin Peaks open world MMORPG would look like.

I’d be ok with some wonky gameplay mechanics if it allowed me to freely stroll around The Great Northern, The Roadhouse, or hell, even the Hayward House! I don’t think I’ve ever played an MMORPG outside of Star Trek online, and that was mainly for the DS9 chapter that functions as an unofficial Season 8.
